Commission a Shoot

In one paragraph

What is architectural photography?

Architectural photography documents the design intent of a building at publication standard — distinct from real estate photography, which is optimised for selling a listing fast. An architectural commission is slower, more considered, and post-production-heavy: perspective-corrected capture so vertical lines stay vertical, long-exposure interior/exterior blending, day-to-twilight sequences, ambient-and-flash mixed lighting, and full retouching to remove cables, reflections and stray cords. The deliverables are CMYK-ready for print, supplied with a licence suitable for SAIA awards, CIfA submissions, magazine features, competition entries and practice portfolio use. DV Media commissions architectural work for architects, interior designers, landscape architects, developers and hospitality brands across South Africa. Typical scope is a full day on site with optional twilight extension; shoots run 60–90 minutes after sunset to capture the architectural narrative as the sun drops and interior lighting becomes the hero.

FAQ

Common questions.

How long does a typical architectural shoot take?

A full day on site is standard for a single project — early morning, midday and late-afternoon light. Twilight add-ons run an extra 60–90 minutes after sunset. Multi-building or campus projects may run 2–3 days.

Are the deliverables suitable for SAIA, CIfA and magazine submissions?

Yes. Files are CMYK-ready for print, perspective-corrected, retouched (cables, reflections and stray cords removed), and supplied with a licence suitable for awards entries, press features and competition submissions.

How is architectural photography different from real estate photography?

Real estate photography sells a property fast with bright, even, listing-friendly images. Architectural photography documents the design at publication standard — slower, more considered, with attention to material, form, light and detail. The retouching pass is significantly heavier.

Do you shoot interior and exterior in the same session?

Yes. Interiors usually shoot during midday, exteriors before and after sunset. Interior/exterior blends are captured with long exposures during dawn or dusk for matched ambient light.

When should I book ahead?

For full-day commissions we recommend 2–3 weeks notice. Twilight slots fill faster — book those a month ahead during peak season (October to April).

Do you travel for architectural shoots?

Yes — across South Africa. Travel beyond a 100km radius from our home metropoles is quoted per project including time, transport and accommodation if required.
